Why Do You Brush Your Teeth Every Day?
This week we spoke with Daniël Koppelle. Where a lot of trainers struggled during the global COVID crisis, Daniël did see new opportunities and founded ”The Fitness Engine”. In our blog today we will discuss with him forming habits, anticipating during the global COVID crisis, being an online and flexible trainer and tracking progress.
Forming Habits
Why do you brush your teeth every day? Why do you wash your hands?Because it is a habit, a ritual. Body movement on a regular basis and being conscious regarding nutrition should be a ritual of everyone as well. During a ritual you develop habits on which you can fall back later on, when. you are – for example – not as motivated as you usually are.
With this thought in mind and our endless passion we coordinate people to improve. We know it can be very hard to develop a habit. That is why we help people on their way to a healthier lifestyle and the right mindset. Our years of experience within the (professional) sports definitely helps us a lot during this process. It helps us to understand what people need and that is what we take perfectly into account.
Creating Flexible Services During COVID
During the global COVID crisis (where everybody had to stay at home), my companion and I came together and we founded ”The Fitness Engine”. The strength of our company is the fact that we can coach our clients everywhere and always. We made a very conscious decision not to work on a fixed location but mostly online. For measuring everything regarding sports and body movement we use the tool MyWelness Cloud – a platform of the Dutch market leader Technogym. The good thing of this platform is that not only training sessions will be tracked, but daily movements as well! Think about someone who is doing a run outside, a heavy bike ride or just a quiet walk. Furthermore we can track all daily activities in and around the house. This way we can gather a complete and honest view about how much people move on a daily basis. Ultimately it also has a coaching module, so we can send direct feedback and coaching on the movement patterns of our clients.
Keeping Things Simple
And that is what is in our point of view always the most important thing: coaching! We could say in a very simple way ”here you do have your training program and feel free to ask us if things are not clear”. However, this way of working is not within our vision. Everyone wants something to fall back on when working on reaching goals and that is what we want to accomplish together.Apart from the focus on body movement we focus a lot on nutrition as well. This is mostly taking part online as well. We want to keep things simple, so no difficult recipes or strict diets. We aim to develop just a normal daily nutrition pattern. By focusing on creating a regular nutrition pattern, people will stick for a longer time to the pattern and there will be a lower probability that someone falls back on hold habits.
Advantages of Being a Flexible Trainer
By providing our services online rather than on one fixed location, we notice that we are taking away some tresholds that people have. Because now they can work on their health from an environment they trust.Due tot the COVID crisis the taboo of online meetings and training sessions mostly disappeared. Something we were already working on for a longer time is offering online training sessions.
The ‘new normal’ made people working from home more often as well as training from home. Here it is important as well that we do not just give a training schedule without a proper coaching. We emphasize coaching once again with this way of working. We do this by planning 1-on-1 live coaching sessions on a regular basis. Here we take a closer look into the exercises and we look closely at the right executions and techniques.
Tracking Progression
We always start a traject with a live streaming where we do some tests. This is not to look how perfect someone is moving, but more to make sure that we notice possible limitations at the beginning of the traject already. By noticing this early on we can check later on how much progression someone has made.Progression is something what in the end everyone seems to be searching for. Research shows that someone often does not quit sports because of a lack of time (which is often given as the main reason) but because someone is not making progression. By taking this into account and by having a close contact with our clients we make sure that this progression will happen!
